Message from the President
Transportation is always on my mind. Be it that I live in a one car household or that I'm a transportation geek, I am always thinking about how people get from one place to the next.

Never more did I think about transportation than last week. I had a schedule loaded with meetings all throughout the Madison region and didn't have access to our car. Thanks to my legs and some useful technology I made it to every meeting on time and only minorly sweaty. The day started with a bike trip into work followed by walking to several meetings downtown. I then took an Uber to a meeting on the far west side, hopped on the 15 Metro Transit Bus back downtown, walked to several more meetings, grabbed a ride back from the east side and then biked home.

What fascinates me the most is that this is not a unique story for people in Madison. Everyday residents throughout the region put a lot of time, thought and resources in how their transportation works. More and more people are using several modes of transportation each day. As this story becomes more prevalent, organizations like DMI need to fight to expand transportation options, create new bus routes, build bus rapid transit lines, add more protected bike lanes, grow bike-share and get ready for automated vehicles. Madison must build the best multi-modal transportation system possible so that we become a more equitable city and are able to quickly and efficiently move our workforce, residents and visitors.

DMI President
