Message from the President

Two years ago, DMI and the DMI Board made a commitment to enhance the diversity and inclusiveness not only within our own organization, but throughout the entire downtown by forming the DMI Ad Hoc Inclusiveness Committee. It was a vital step we needed to take to stay true to our mission and be intentional about ensuring DMI and downtown are welcoming places providing opportunities for all. As part of this new initiative, DMI organized a gathering of our partners with the theme "Listen, Learn & Leverage" in March of 2016. We held our second annual gathering on May 15th of this year. Both were very successful and have provided an excellent base to build on.

On April 18, 2017, the DMI Board voted unanimously to change the Ad Hoc Inclusiveness Committee to a permanent DMI Committee that will meet on a monthly basis. Board member Mark Richardson with Unfinished Business and GigBlender has agreed to chair the committee. The first gathering of this new committee will be on June 15th. At the meeting DMI Board members will create a mission statement along with short and long-term goals. With the Committee's work to begin soon, there is a lot more to come and we will be sure to keep all of you informed and reach out to you for your involvement!

Susan Schmitz, DMI President
