Message from the President
Sometimes it just feels like things are happening. Monday, June 11, 2018 is one of those days. I felt like I was part of a day when it happened (and yes...I will sing that to the Hamilton tune if you ask nicely).

On June 11 two seminal events happened in Madison. First, Madison College broke ground on its south campus off Park Street. Years in the making the campus will dynamically change South Madison by meeting the needs of the community within the community, increase access to higher education and help train the workforce of tomorrow. The campus will help create jobs where they are needed most in Madison.

Later in the afternoon DMI was honored to co-host a sneak peak of the new StartingBlock offices on East Washington Avenue. StartingBlock will "create intersections that cultivate entrepreneurs, build innovative companies and drive ideas into reality." While touring the facility for the first time you could see exactly where Madison's next big companies will start, employing our City and building stronger community throughout.

June 11 will go down as a day when it happened; when Madison grew up, started delivering on its promise to help all members of its community and build a more inclusive economy where everyone has access to a good education and a high paying job. This is only the beginning, and there surely are plenty of challenges ahead, but it a great start.

Jason Ilstrup,
DMI President
