Message from the President

Hello to all DMI members:
My heart is heavy but filled with gratitude. My last day as the President of DMI is Friday, December 22nd. Close to 20 years is long enough for a position like I have had and I am pleased that Jason Ilstrup (current General Manager of HotelRED) will be my successor. This has been the best job I have ever had and I have loved every minute of it! The best parts of my job have been working with a generous, enlightened and smart Board of Directors, an amazing staff, with City of Madison staff, City of Madison Alders and working with so many of you who attend the DMI Committees and share your expertise with us. This combination has allowed DMI to accomplish a great amount of good work/advocacy during my time and I am proud of all that DMI has accomplished. Thank you to everyone who has/does participate and to everyone who is reading this message. I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to work with so many good people who care about the health and vitality of our downtown. I plan to stay around and work on projects with many of you so you will still see me on my red bike with my red jacket and helmet riding from my home to downtown Madison-where else would I want to be?

With appreciation and gratitude,

Susan Schmitz,
DMI President
